Community Bank Doncaster East - Bendigo Bank

Bendigo Bank Community Bank program

Community banking is based on a 'profit-with-purpose' model, which means that profits are returned directly to the community that has generated them, after paying branch running costs. The program was a response to the massive closure of bank branches, predominantly in rural areas. Bendigo Bank has since extended the program to major metropolitan areas with existing bank services. Since 1998, Bendigo Community Banks have reinvested more than $272 million back into local communities.

Community Banking

In the late 1990’s a new type of banking model came onto Australia’s banking scene. Bendigo’s Community Bank branches. It was a brave and bold move by a regional bank in a rapidly evolving banking and finance sector.

Today, more than 20 years later, there are 324 Community Bank branches throughout Australia, partnering with one of Australia's biggest banks.
Not only do these Community Bank branches provide banking and financial services, they have a unique point of difference.
Their profits go back to supporting local community groups, projects and initiatives.
Since the model was introduced in Rupunyip in 1988, the 324 Community Bank branches across Australia have distributed almost $300 million to local sporting clubs, schools, kindergartens charitable organisations and community interest groups. They offer a revenue stream for local communities to make their patch a better place to live, work and play.

In Manningham, our Doncaster East and Templestowe Village branches have contributed over $5 million to this local community.
