Rotary Club of Templestowe

Chartered in March 1977, the Club currently has a membership of around 30 men and women drawn from a wide range of professional and business backgrounds.  There is a strong emphasis on service and a progressive and partnership approach to community support at local, national and international levels.

Interesting and relevant speakers are a key part of Club meetings and a wide diversity of member vocations provides an inclusive experience for members, visiting Rotarians and guests.

Rotary is for men and women of any age.  Essentially, if you are recognised as a person having integrity, then you are eligible for membership.

Rotary Clubs are chartered by Rotary International and are established under a standard Club constitution and by-laws agreed by the Club from time to time.  The Club is governed by a Board of Directors who ensure compliance with the constitution, by laws, local regulations and sound financial management practices.  The Club manages both administrative subscriptions from members and charitable donations and proceeds from fund raising activities.

The Board is chaired by a President who is elected annually for a 12 month term and serves on the Board as President Elect before assuming office.  Other positions are rotated throughout the Club membership and incumbents usually stay on the Board for at least two years in succession to assist with balance and continuity.

Rotary has a global network of more than 1.2 million members in more than 33,000 Clubs in over 180 countries.  The international nature of Rotary allows members to visit any Club in the world.  There is the opportunity to gain social, cultural, political and administrative skills through interaction with other members.  Personal development skills such as leadership, human relations, public speaking and meeting management are acquired in a co-operative environment where friendship and understanding is emphasized.

Object of Rotary

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service through self as a basis of worthy enterprise. Rotary focuses on:The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life.
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
